Meet Our Founder
Founder & Chairperson
“I believe culture is one of the strongest bridges between people.”
Sana founded Al-Awdah out of a simple conviction: that the stories, songs and stitches carried by Palestinian families deserve a home in Australia's cultural life. For more than two decades she has worked alongside artists, teachers, librarians and councils to create spaces where heritage is not just remembered but practised — in workshops, on screens, around shared tables. Under her leadership, Al-Awdah has grown from a handful of living room gatherings into a festival, a school program, and a network of volunteers. Her focus has never changed: bring people into the same room, let culture do the talking, and make sure the next generation inherits something living.
